WHAT WE DO

The general purpose of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul ministry is to provide emergency material assistance and spiritual support (as requested) to those temporarily in need. The Society is not a welfare agency for those in chronic need. Such are referred to the appropriate government agencies.
  • All applicants for assistance will be evaluated without regard to race, religion, gender, political belief or sexual orientation.
  • All applicants will be required to complete an application/information form. The information requested includes
    • Names of applicant, spouse or partner, and any other adults in the home.
    • Address and phone number of the applicant.
    • Reason why they are requesting assistance.
  • All applicants will be required to provide positive identification consisting of a valid picture ID.
  • SVdP case workers have the right during the interview of the client to inquire as to the applicant’s job status, income sources, and level of expenses. Such information is used to help determine the most effective way to assist the client.
  • SVdP case workers will inquire as to other sources of assistance the client may have received.

RENT OR UTILITIES

      1. We can help a household one time in a rolling 2-year period.
      2. The general guidelines for  assistance are as follows:
      3. Amount of assistance determined on a case by case basis.
      4. Client must provide a valid ID.
      5.  Client must have current utility bill or copy of valid typewritten lease. We must be able to contact the utility or landlord.

PRESCRIPTIONS

All prescription requests must be for non-narcotic drugs only and are filled with the Medicine Shoppe. Amount of assistance determined on a case by case basis. One per year.

CITY TROLLEY  COUPONS-City of Joplin only

Maximum of two per rolling year. Applicant with verifiable employment may get an additional book.

OTHER ASSISTANCE

We may be able to help with such things as getting documents (IDs, birth certificates); medical supplies; or other emergency needs.

  • All other types of assistance are generally one time only on an as needed basis due to emergency circumstances.
  • As always, extraordinary circumstances may require making different judgments in any given case.
  • No compensation or donation will ever be solicited from an applicant. The only time a client will pass money to the Society is to pay their part of an outstanding bill in which case they will be given a receipt.
  • WE DO NOT HAVE A FOOD PANTRY. WE DO NOT GIVE GAS CARDS. WE DO NOT PROVIDE BUS TICKETS. WE DO NOT HAVE PHONE CARDS.
  • Emergency Relief Center location and hours: 512 E. 32nd St. Suite 108 Joplin, Open Thursdays from 9:00 am to 11:00 a.m.
  • All requests for assistance must be made in person. All applications depend on funding being available.
